Wiki Annotated Bib.

Decatur High School Library, 2009, City Schools of Decatur, viewed 15th of April, http://dhs.wikispaces.com/

The Decatur started this Wiki in 2009 as a group based project which was based on a roster set for things needed to be done, It grew when more funds were given to the library and ideas were given to include the high school's curriculum which covered the subjects they offer. It is authoritative being used for research within the school along side an open discussion where anyone that has signed up can participate in. The site also allows you to view updates and send you emails to show what has been updated along side resources from e-books to whole lessons being online. Other sources offered by the wiki is the pathfinder resource, allowing you to track certain courses and posts until it is canceled. This site is recommend for people who have an interest in library online resources as well as the development of web 2 environment.

Teacher tube and its annotated eval

Having been playing with TeacherTube over the past few weeks I found it intresting and somewhat a bit of a let down. The site over all is good for its resources but its usabilty is sorely lacking then that of youtube or other video sites, its search function is a bit iffy but onces it working properly it is ok.

Annotated Bib of a video from Teacher tube:

Teachertube, Librarylegend, 2010, Student printing at Wagga Wagga TAFE Library, viewed 18th of April, http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=174419&title=Student_printing_at_Wagga_Wagga_TAFE_Library&vpkey=

This video was made by a group of students up in Wagga Wagga as part of a demonstration for an introductory course in computing, it is both authoritative and precise going through step by step on how to print, giving the prices of the most commonly used printing options, printing options from Microsoft Word. I would recommend this for new students/staff and even for ESL students as it gives visual examples as well, going slow and able to be replayed as many times as needed. It is also possible to download this video and transfer it to other computers or video media devices by usb/email/ect..

Thats it for this post enjoy!!

Rollyo

This is my Rollyo search engine: http://rollyo.com/shadowzeny/scotts_library/

I found Rollyo quite interesting, It let me combine my seaches of single sites into one big resource for my use and for public use, I will be intresting to see when Rollyo finishes its beta and goes live properly.

The Unquiet Librarian Annotated Citation

B. Hamilton, 2010, The Unquiet Librarian, viewed 8th of March, 2010, http://theunquietlibrarian.wordpress.com

The Unquiet Librarian is a blog made by Buffy Hamilton who is a teacher librarian at Creekview High School in Georgia. She uses what spare time and some work time to create this blog about several different aspects of what it is to be a Librarian these days and time, going in to very detailed posts about web 2.0 and Library 2.0 applications and technologies, giving the goods the bads and the in-betweens, giving personal and professional information and thoughts. It is encouraged on the blog to throw down your own oppions and thoughts as well as information in what libraries you may work in.
The blog it self goes into detail about how libraries around the world are constantly changing and is a must for people with a keen interest in 2.0 technologies and different aspects of an ever changing library.
The Latrobe University Library, 2009, Library Podcasts, viewed 7th March 2010, http://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/podcasts/

On January 1st 2007 the Latrobe library introduced various pod casts for the collections as well as an audio tour of the library to help students, staff and faculty patrons find various materials. At first these were only in the Library it self setup as a audio link where you went around the collection and building with a pair of headphones to listen to the various information. They have now updated this to be all online where you can just download the audio file from the website and listen to it on your mp3/computer and so forth. From what is seen the materials are copyrighted but with permission these audio files are aloud to be uploaded elsewhere with the proper credits to the Latrobe University Library. The site also offers a RSS feed to the website noting any updates or changes to the audio content or if new materials have been added.

((initially was done on Tuesday but i have been down sick and didn't post till tonight))

Chosen Wiki

The wiki I have chosen to do is http://dhs.wikispaces.com/

It is basically the Dectaur High School Library. So :P choose ya own, good luck peeps.

What I found interesting about this website is its course contents and how it dedicates pages to the subjects like with the title on the main page telling you the month flavour which is Womens History
month. Another feature I find quite interesting in this Wiki are the pathfinder links to other quite authoritative as well as interesting to the subjects at hand.

Types of applications that could be incorporated into a wiki like this like calenders and times and dates that can be edited at any time, help-desk queries at real time speed with out having to be face to face and even general work place information that can be updated such as schedules and other types of information.

thats pretty much all I have to say at the moment but expect a full critical citation of Decatur High School Library tomorrow.

Google Buzz

Here's another interesting web 2 app i found, it is called Google Buzz and was recently released along side Googles new mail application called Google Wave.

Google buzz essentially is part of Gmail, but making it more of a socal thing that allows you to share your pictures with your designated friends, share news and relay chat to them via the application, sharing photos and so forth. I think its quite nifty, because as people know i'm not a fan of websites like face book or my space, i just find them to chaotic and clutered, but Buzz it self is neat, simple and extremely organised.

As I mentioned earlier in my post, to use this application you must have a Google Gmail account and down the left hand side of the bar just under the Inbox link you will find it there. There is no direct link to this feature but a sign up page can be found here: http://www.google.com/buzz

Enjoy ya blogging people!

Plupper: Live chat and service feedback Widget and real time chat

Hi again foaks, been looking around the web at various web 2 stuff and this one sparked my interest. For you people who love instant messenger a.k.a MSN, AIM, Yahoo and so forth this little web 2 app is for you

It is called Plupper and from my experiences with it has been quite the amusing little thing to actually sit down and play with, It offers you a variety of chat programs to log into like msn, aim and yahoo as well as the more newer chat protocols on social gathering sites like Face book, MySpace. It also gives you the options to use the older chat protocols like IRC ((Internet Relay chat)) Xampp and other things that were decades before modern messenging.

Other little features has hidden about is its site are games you can play people over it and live video links ((which was a hassle in my opinion to set up via it since you need to know what ports to open and make the website reconise you your web cam)) and voice chat over the appropriate messengers.

Link to the site: http://www.plupper.com/

That pretty much all I have to say on this for now, gonna critically evaluate this on Tuesday along side other thing.

Meebo

hmm.... Meebo, do's and don'ts.

I've looked over Meebo and have a little past experience with it, some pro's and some very bad cons that actually turned me away from it, not to say I'm bad mouthing the creator of it, its just my direct thoughts on it. so lets get started.

Pro's:

- Instant access across variety of instant message platforms via a web page view.
- Real time chat via web page interface

Con's:

- Caching: This website will register your password, weather you choose so or not and will cache the information in a temporary file on the computer you are on which with the right sort of mind can be accessed rather easily.

- Data feedback: from time to time the website due to its real time interface will spit back all you have typed into one massive message which at times may cause it to lag or your own net services to lag ((time out or un-synchronize)) and become unresponsive.

- Extremely sensitive icons: Will at times if you click once, will double/triple post the same thing due to being real time sensitive.

Over all view, I am somewhat iffy about using it, but in local places I would recommend other services if they were plausible. Within a group environment It would be given the ok, since its multiple users on it so as to mix and match data that is cached saved. Over overall I would try to use something different such as Pidgin or Kamteo, as both are more secure, more user friendly.

Welcoming Post
