The Decatur started this Wiki in 2009 as a group based project which was based on a roster set for things needed to be done, It grew when more funds were given to the library and ideas were given to include the high school's curriculum which covered the subjects they offer. It is authoritative being used for research within the school along side an open discussion where anyone that has signed up can participate in. The site also allows you to view updates and send you emails to show what has been updated along side resources from e-books to whole lessons being online. Other sources offered by the wiki is the pathfinder resource, allowing you to track certain courses and posts until it is canceled. This site is recommend for people who have an interest in library online resources as well as the development of web 2 environment.

Lots of links and resources but I didn't much like the design - just by looking at the wiki it wasn't clear to me what it's purpose was or if it had one. I suspect that most of the people contributing to this wiki are only thinking about other people from the Decatur High School when they post material - people who will already have a context that will help them make sense of what is on the wiki.
ReplyDeleteThe design of the site is fairly basic however the content is good as it has many links and resources available to its users. It is obviously provided primarily for the use of the students and other users of Decatur High School library. The library blog is interesting and up to date and keeps readers abreast of what is going on with the library. The discussion pages have not been used since 2008 and appear to have been set up primarily as single topic/subject forums. They do not appear to be a successful idea as yet. Overall a good resource for the library users.
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in this as an example of a wiki. Yes it is called a wiki but is it really? I looked at a random sample fo links and they seem to provide access to web pages predominantly. I think that Decaatur High School have started with this as an idea, as Michael says to provide links to lots of resources for the students and staff, but it doesn't function in the same way that I imagined a wiki to function in being really interactive. I noted that no changes had been made to the wiki for at least 30 days - as Michael too has pointed out.
ReplyDeleteOnn an assessment note, the citation is fine and the annotation, whilst need a bit of grammatical editing, is adequate. I think though the purpose of the site is really mainly, as Ben says, for people attending the school so not a very general or useful wiki for other people.
